've always thought that panna cotta looked so good, but I honestly have no idea what it is. Does it taste anything like flan?

not exactly. Flan is made of eggs, sugar and milk. Panna Cotta is made of cooked cream, sugar and gelatin. It s not that hard to make. You should try it. :)
